Parent-Child Dynamics is both damaging and hard to get out of. This group can help.
What is Parent-Child Dynamics?
Parent-Child Dynamics is one of the most pervasive, and difficult patterns that ADHD-impacted couples navigate. One partner is the manager, and is often anxious about what is - and is not - happening in the relationship. The other partner may feel critiqued or feel shame around their inconsistent performance.
What is IFS?
In this group 5 couples will work with Internal Family Systems (IFS) master facilitator, Jason Weber, to understand what ‘parts’ of themselves are participating in the parent-child dynamics. Our parts play different roles - for example some parts protect or defend us, others work to soothe our upset feelings, and still others are burdened with painful beliefs and memories. Learning about these parts fosters more compassion, clarity, courageous communication, and deeper connection, which is one reason IFS therapy is such an effective tool for those impacted by ADHD.
How does an IFS group work?
This intentionally small group will meet for 90 minutes, for seven sessions. The core of each session includes a deeply experiential process in which one couple will receive expert help to explore and learn more about the ‘parts’ of themselves that keep the relationship stuck in familiar and disheartening patterns. When one couple is engaged in this process, other couples will be silently holding space, witnessing, and noticing how they relate. Afterward, group discussion will collect appreciations and insights that merit future attention. Participants obtain a deeper understanding of what drives their Parent-Child Dynamic, and learn how to compassionately move away from it.
