So my husband has finally been formally diagnosed. We're in the middle of trying to get him a med prescribed that we can actually afford (can't afford Vyvanse for $150 a month!!). But the problem is, my husband still doesn't know a lot about ADD. He doesn't like reading, and I verbally tell him things sometimes but I don't get too far without him tuning out. He'll watch videos, has anyone seen a video on ADD? Or anyone have any suggestions on how to educate him without him having to read a book? I'm reading Dr Hallowell's Driven From Distraction right now and I love it! I SO wish my husband would read it. Suggestions?

I borrowed Delivered from Distraction from my local Library and it was on CD. I have ADD and I listened to it in three days. Very helpful. I take ritalin and I think it is fairly cheap compared to most medicines. I don't know the actual amount because my insurance takes care of a majority of the cost.

for just that reason. As far as videos, there is one listed I believe if you scroll to page 2 of the blog section there is a post for "Wonderful Film on ADD" called ADD and Loving It. It is a man with ADD discussing with his wife what it is like to have ADD and also some common misconceptions about it. Very good video!
As for the reading issue...we own lots of books & workbooks on ADD and I've read every word of every book. My ADD husband has read a few sections in each. He is a big book-on-tape guy and he drives for work, so that works great for him...except the times that he is so engrossed in his book that he misses his exit off the freeway. That has happened more times than you'd think.

I think it is tragic that every book is not in audio form! I read or scan chapter titles of at least 300 books a year and I am a visual learner so it is easy for me. Sometimes I read only chapters that look very informative. One thing very time consuming thing I have done is record parts of a book onto a free software program.
Google mp3mymp3. Download it to your computer, get a microphone (I have a skype headset for $20) and record your book. Save it and the other person can listen on your computer or email them the file. I think that it is sometimes very difficult for some ADDers to stay focused on the written word, but they can focus better hearing it.
